  1. In this book I feel that Nick Carraway is the most moral of all the characters. While he himself is not perfect, his moral character certainly rises far above that of all the others. There were several instances in which his moral character was challenged in this book, and he often took the more noble road. Nick was a hard working young man, who came to the Eastern coast in order to make a good life for himself following his ambition. He had a good amount of money, but not nearly as much as his other Western-immigrant neighbors that surrounded him. Throughout the novel, Gatsby had hinted to Nick that he could offer him a position in his ring of illegal business, which he promised would pay off for Nick very nicely. Nick would always decline Gatsby, but in a way in which he was not rudely denying him and often quickly changing to another topic. He resisted the temptation of being able to live a life more like that of Gatsby and the Buchanans. Nick put his moral values over money. Another instance in which Nick showed his moral character was towards the end of the novel when he was frantically searching for friends of Gatsby's who could possibly come to his funeral to give honor to this once great man. Although Nick had often made it clear that he didn't particularly like the work of Gatsby, and all the things he stood for, he still felt as though he deserved to be remembered by those in his life who he had associated. For some reason Nick felt that this was his responsibility, and soon found that he was Gatsby's only true friend.
On the opposing polar end in the scale of moral is Jay Gatsby, the man for whom the novel is named. Gatsby's entire life was false, and built upon pursuing a woman whom he could never attain. As a young boy, Gatsby felt detached from his family, and as though he didn't feel he belonged with them. This feeling he had was due to his embarrassment of his parents occupation and social status, even though they loved and worked hard for him. To completely detach himself from them, he ran away at the young age of 17 and changed his name to further insult his family and their low social standing. Once gone, Gatsby earned his living through dishonest and illegal means. He killed men, sold illegal liquor, and rigged betting system in order to gain millions of dollars. With this money Gatsby through wild and elaborate parties, showing that he had far more money than anyone could ever need. To further prove his immoral standing, Gatsby pursued Daisy, a married woman, and tried to convince both her and her husband, Tom, that she had never been in love with him. All he wanted was to selfishly take her away from her family life and have her all to himself.

  4. 1) George
    2) Nick
    3)Jordan
    4) Daisy
    5) Gatsby
    6)Myrtle
    7) Tom

I chose George as my most moral charaater because in the story he is the one charater that actually goes by responsible and humble choices. He respcts peple, and has that innocent sense of personality in him. He is not really the most important characer but in the story of "the great gatsby" he is always personified as a honest and humble man. he doesnt have bad intentions towards anyone until he finds out about myrtle cheating on him, and also when he discovered that "gatsby killed her"
i Chose Tom, as my least moral character not because of his brute force on situations and his arrogant personality. but rather because of the way he chooses to lead his life. Tom buchannon has everything any normal man would want in life. He has the wife, the money, the house and much much more. unfortunately, he has to abuse his belongings and like anyone else who has power, yearns for more. Sure, he didnt yearn for politcal or business power. but he wanted the ability to commit adultry and get away with it. for the most part, he did and had an affair for a very long time. he had cheated on his wife for the sake of gong wit another woman. on a side note he alse uses his brute force adn arrogant way of speaking to get people to fear him and become entranced by his methods for respect, and power. he is aggressive towards people when he doesnt get what he wants and he is less aggressvie towards people who obey him,
either way he does not have morals that are meant for much good and are mostly selfish and bad.

    (Most to Least Moral)

I believe that in the Great Gatsby the person who was the most moral was Nick Carraway. Right from the beginning of the book you could tell that he was a good guy and nothing like the other characters who soon revealed their many flaws. Nick does a good job throughout the book in dealing with the many problems that happen over the summer. He has to deal with the problems between Gatsby, Tom, and Daisy and has to deal with the problems of Myrtle, Tom, and George. Lastly he had to deal with the immature Jordan Baker who cheated on her golf tournament just so that she could win. Nick shows his morality when he doesn’t trust the rumors of Gatsby until he talks to Gatsby and finds out for sure what is right and what is wrong. Also Nick had no interest in Gatsby’s illegal business with Wolfsheim and denied the opportunity of becoming very rich. In my opinion I feel like most people would have taken this offer from Gatsby however it surprised me in the book when he declined the offer. Nick also seems to in general have a good set of morals. Nick tries to help people out and does things the right way. He worked hard and went to college at Yale. These examples definitely show that Nick is the most moral character in the book.
In the book the Great Gatsby I believe that Gatsby is the least moral character. In the beginning Gatsby is a mysterious man that the reader did not know a lot about. However as the book progressed we start to hear more rumors about him. Things like that he went to Oxford, that he killed a man, and that he was a German spy. We eventually find out that the reason he is rich is through criminal relations. I also believe he is the most immoral of the group because Jay Gatsby basically recreated himself to get what he wanted and he would do anything to achieve his goal. Jay Gatsby, we find out, has changed his name from James Gatz to Jay Gatsby. He also moves to West Egg right across the body of water where Daisy lives, which is shown by the green light that Gatsby is staring at. Also I think it was immoral of Gatsby to attempt to steal Daisy away from Tom and to make Daisy tell Tom that she never loved him even though it wasn’t true. Gatsby is a dreamer and doesn’t seem to think realistically half the time. This causes problems because he should have known he couldn’t have taken Daisy away from Tom. And the problem is that he spent his entire life devoted to get back with Daisy when it was a failure. These things have shown that Gatsby is an immoral character and one of the most immoral in the book along with Tom and George.

  6. Nick
    George
    Jordan
    Daisy
    Myrtle
    Tom
    Gatsby

I chose Nick as the most moral character in the book because he was a hard worker and has made an honest living for himself. He followed his morals strictly. For example, Gatsby told him that if he participated in his illegal means of business he would prosper but his morals were above money. He wasn’t as rich as everyone he was around but that didn’t seem to bother him. He is very forgiving; when Gatsby died he tried to get people to go to his funeral even though he wasn’t liked.

I chose Jay Gatsby as mu least moral person in the book because he was living a lie. He didn’t have an honest living. He chose to kill and sell illegal booze to make his money. He centered his life on a plan to try to get with a married woman. That was the only reason he had the huge parties, because he hoped that she would eventually show up at one of his parties, and once she did he selfishly stopped having the parties.

Nick is the most morale character because hes the only one not doing something wrong. Jordan is stuck up but thats it. Daisy is fairly nice but she is having an affair. Tom is a jerk and is having an affair. Gatsby is nice but is a carreer criminal. Geroge is a murdrerer.

I believe that Nick is the most morale out of all the other characters in the Great Gatsby because he is the only person in the story that had not commit a sin or a betrayal. Nick is the one character that feels for Gatsby at his time of need and is the only one that has reached out and befriended the others. Nick is naturally a good, compassionate person, and that is what makes him the most morale person in the book. In my opinion, Tom is the worst character in the book. He is the least morale person, because he betrays the one person in the world that loved the most, Daisy. He cheated on her with another lady and made it known to the rest of the world. Without considering her feelings once. Not only was he cheating on her, but he technically never was with her. After Daisy and Tom's wedding and a couple of months later they had a baby together and he wasn't there to support her or be there for their child. He was with the other women that he committed adultery with. Also, I believe Tom is the least morale because he hits women and thinks he's in charge of everything. He punished Myrtle in the nose in front of so many people, that were at the party. He didn't even apologize for his action. Tom also relates to other races as inferior and withholds a racist atttude. By reading that book in the beginning of the novel, and relating those emotions to his everyday life, shows that he cannot come up with his own thoughts and opinions and that he's superior attitude has gone too far. Lastly, Tom is the least morale person because he did not even bother to figure out what happened in the case of Myrtle's death. Because he didn't he caused two other innocent people their lives. I think that Nick is the most morale and Tom is the least morale characters in the Great Gatsby

Nick is the the most moral character because he never really does anything throughout the entire novel. He is somehow there whenever something "exciting" happens, but he never actually does anything wrong. He never really does anything right, either. He avoided joining the business that Gatsby offered him, opting for morality over money.

Gatsby was the least moral character because of the problems he spread around the entire circle of characters. His previous career was as a criminal. He has an affair with Daisy, and somehow thinks that he can change the present, even though she has a new life without him. He was also there when Daisy hit Myrtle. He is involved in many of the negative events in the novel, which shows how he is morally.

I chose Nick to be the most moral character in the book. I think this because he worked for what he has and has made an honest man of himself and also followed all of his morals right down to the point. For example, when Gatsby told nick that if he helped in his illegal forms of business he would benefit from helping him but decided his morals were above having money. Even though Nick was not as rich as everyone else he was around, he was not bothered by that fact.

I chose Gatsby as the least moral charcater becuase of the problems he started between the characters in the story. He used to be a criminal, has had an affair with Daisy and thinks that he can even change the present with his wealth. Gatsby seems to be there when all the negative things happen in the novel, for example, he was there when Daisy hit Myrtle on there way back form New York.

I chose Jordan as the most moral character because the only thing she had done was cheat in a golf tournament. She definately has a bad attitude that is showed off when she talks about drving, also when Nick breaks up with her.

I chose Gatsby as the least moral character not because of his actions but because of his feelings. Yes he did have an affair with Daisy, but anyone who thinks that money can bring back the past and change the present, obviously has some issues. Everyone knows that money doesn't buy happiness.

As the most moral character in The Great Gatsby, I chose Nick Carraway because he is an honest, open-minded and hard-working man who did not cheat is way to where he got. Although he is not as wealthy as everyone surrounding him, he is satisfied with what he has got. He is also not stuck-up like the rest of the characters. Nick always does the right thing in the situations he is put through in the story.

On the other end of the Gatsby moralty scale, I put Tom Buchannon because he is an arrogant hipocrit. He believes his money, his house, and his wife proves he is far superior to everyone else. He gets aggresive when he finds his wife Daisy falling in love with Gatsby and he gets very jealous and controlling not because he loves Daisy but because she is "his property". This makes him a hipocrit because he has had an affair for much longer with Myrtle. Earlier in the book, Myrtle finds out about Tom's wife and his obviously going to be angry, but Tom still relentlessly strikes her breaks her nose. Tom is just an ignorant yuppie.

In the book The Great Gatsby, I think that the most moral character would have to be Nick. In the book, a bad side is seen to every character along with some bad traits and decisions. Nick seems to be the only one in the book who really seems to care about others' feelings. He still feels for Gastby and is the only one who does even though Gatsby is not the best person in the world. He also cares about hurting Jordan's feelings when he is pressured to pursue her. He also shows that he is the most mature of all the characters because when he is put in various situations, he always tries to do the right thing and when trouble lurks & he is stuck involved with it, he tries his best to stay out of it.

For the least moral character, I think it would definetly be Gatsby for several reasons. His whole life is basicly a lie and through many of his poor decisions, the reader can tell that Gatsby is a man of pride and cheats his way into getting what he wants. For example, in order to get money he chooses to do illegal things and once he gets the money, he wants to show it off by throwing constant parties. He also shows that he is selfish when he tries to get Daisy to have an affair with him and get her to leave her husband for him.

  17. I feellike Nick is the most moral out of all the 6 characters because he did nothing wrong and was always polite and never said anything bad. Goge will be next for me because he did nothing worong and he was always nice to evryone including his wife that has been cheating on him and he still loves her and has some good friends. Gatsby would be next in line because he did nothing wrong and he went to war but he also left daisy to fight for his country and would take the blame for daisy car death against Myrtle. Jordan due to driving comments and wants nick tostay to show compastion. Myrtle would be next even though he was cheating and she did not even tell george but she should have not been killed. Daisy would be next because she killed myrtle and go to jail for that but also not even doing anything when Tom is cheating on her because of the money. Tom would be the least becaus ehe is cheating on his wife with a best friend wife and not telling daisy and basically does not care until gatsby comes in to the picture.

I chose Nick as the "most moral" due to his honesty in most situations, such as refusing to join any of Gatsby's undercover plans. For the least moral I chose Tom, who time and again proved to be arrogant, violent and unfaithful to his wife. Having had numerous affairs with other women so soon after their marriage, his jealousy when Daisy and Gatsby are together proves he is a complete hipocrite. His temper also appears often, as shown when he smacks Myrtle on the nose.
