  1. “I’m p-paralyzed with happiness.” (Chapter 1, pg. 8)

This quote is originally talking about how happy Daisy was to see her cousin, Nick. I think of it in a slightly different way, however. I think it can be used to represent Daisy as a person. She puts on an act and plays like she’s this happy, bubbly, person, but she also gives off hints that show she may not be very happy at all. The saying “Ignorance is bliss” applies to her. The less she knows, the happier she is. Unfortunately, she is completely aware of all that is going wrong in her life.

  2. "I'm glad it's a girl. And I hope she'll be a fool--that's the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool." (21)

Daisy and her character is revealed in this quote as she is very negative towards women even though she is a woman.

  3. "I told her how I had stopped off in Chicago for a day on my way east and how a dozen people had sent their love through me. "Do they miss me?" she cried ecstatically." (Pg. 14)

In this quote Nick is talking to Daisy. At first it might seem like her response was her typical off-kilter behavior. However, it also could be saying something about her relationship with Tom. At many times during Nick's visit to the Buchanon's home Daisy seems 'trapped' in her home, her relationship. When Nick mentions the outside world, her life beyond Tom, she jumps at the thought of her life outside. Through this one could tell that she wishes to escape her lie of a housewife life with Tom. This could be foreshadowing, as she might try to fulfill her suppressed desire to escape as tensions rise later in the book.

  4. "we all looked-the knuckle was black and blue." " You did it, Tom," she said accusingly."

    (pg 16)
Analysis: This qoute shows that Daisy is passive even though she has to put up with the way that he is treating her.

  5. "All right, I said I'm glad it's a girl. And I hope she'll be a fool-that's the best thing a girl can be in the world,a beautiful little fool"(17)

This qoute says she really likes somebody with very nice cloth and she knew that he is rich and she liked that. Also this shows that daisy and most woman wants a guy to have a lot of money and wants her baby to be beautiful because she think she will go far in life just with that and it is true. Also daisy says fool because she wishes that she could have been dumb because she would not care about what Tom is doing and getting angry by this affair that he is having when he is married to daisy. As well as she feels tricked because even though she is married Tom still does not care about this by having this affair and it is eating her inside due to this but she will be together with Tom. Daisy is beautiful so she does have a good life and she wants the same thing for the baby.

  7. "Tom's getting very profound," said Daisy, with an expression of unthoughtful sadness. "He reads deep books with long words in them. What was that word we-"(13)

Analysis: Daisy thinks Tom is being egotistical and is dissappointed in Tom's intersts in bigotry and racial discrimination. Daisy thinks Tom and his racist beliefs are wrong and she is not happy with him. She is not happy with Tom and says this sarcastically. Daisy does not actually think Tom is profound but she thinks he is mistaken in his beliefs.
